In a recent development, the presence of avian flu cases in Kingsbury Water Park, North Warwickshire, has sparked a warning for visitors to maintain a safe distance from wild birds.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) confirmed the detection of the H5N1 virus at the park. As a precautionary measure, Defra has advised against touching any sick or deceased birds, emphasizing that the risk to human health is deemed "very low."
For dog owners, it's recommended to keep pets on leads and adhere to designated footpaths within the park's vicinity. Additionally, park visitors are kindly requested to refrain from feeding wild birds.
Councillor Anne-Marie Sonko, the health portfolio holder at Warwickshire County Council, stated, "We've strategically placed advisory signs across Kingsbury Park to ensure visitors are informed. We also kindly ask that people do not feed the wild birds at this time."
Dr. Shade Agboola, the local authority's director of public health, further emphasized the seriousness of the situation, saying, "The occurrence of avian flu among the wild bird population is a matter we are treating with utmost importance. The UKHSA has assured us that the risk of transmission from birds to humans is considered minimal."
