FanDuel Sports Network Viewership Soars: NBA & NHL Streaming Gains! (2026)

The Rise of FanDuel Sports Network: A New Era for NBA and NHL Fans

In a world where streaming and linear TV are often pitted against each other, FanDuel Sports Network (FDSN) has found a harmonious balance, resulting in impressive viewership gains for both NBA and NHL coverage. As we approach the festive season, let's dive into the numbers and uncover the secrets behind this success story.

FDSN's Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) have witnessed a remarkable 12% increase in total audience viewership for NBA games. Linear TV, a traditional powerhouse, has also shown resilience with a 2% year-over-year growth. However, the real game-changer has been the focus on in-market streaming initiatives by NBA teams.

David Coletti, the head of research at FanDuel Sports Network, sheds light on this phenomenon: "It's a combination of viewers embracing the streaming ecosystem and our collaborative efforts with partner teams to educate fans. We're ensuring fans know how to access their favorite teams via streaming, and the results are encouraging. It's a win-win situation where we don't have to sacrifice one platform's viewers for another."

Nearly every NBA team on an FDSN RSN has experienced a double-digit increase in unique streamers per game, with some teams achieving triple-digit growth. The total minutes streamed across FDSN's portfolio for NBA teams stands at an impressive 300 million, a 56% jump compared to last season. A whopping 88% of these streaming minutes have been through direct-to-consumer (DTC) products.

Among FDSN's NBA partners, the Detroit Pistons lead the pack with a staggering 97% total audience increase. Other notable performers include the Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs.

But here's where it gets interesting: FDSN's NHL coverage is on fire too! The network is experiencing one of its strongest starts to an NHL season, with total audience viewership across its RSNs up a whopping 26%. Linear TV has seen a 24% surge, while streaming has skyrocketed by 61%. Total minutes streamed for NHL teams on FDSN RSNs have reached 204 million, a remarkable 69% increase.

The Columbus Blue Jackets lead the way with a 69% increase, closely followed by the St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, and Detroit Red Wings.

Coletti highlights the key driver of this success: "Access to sports content is the primary reason people stay within the pay TV ecosystem. Many have left the traditional pay TV bundle but still want to watch their local teams. Sports content is a huge incentive for people to remain within the pay TV bundle."

This story is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in the sports broadcasting industry. As we continue to navigate the evolving media landscape, FDSN's success serves as an inspiring example of how streaming and linear TV can coexist and thrive.

What are your thoughts on the future of sports broadcasting? Do you think streaming will eventually dominate, or will linear TV maintain its stronghold? We'd love to hear your opinions in the comments below!
