Billionaire Jamie Dimon Pushes Back on Trump’s Claims: “Grow Up”
Jamie Dimon, the chief executive of JPMorgan Chase, challenged Devin Nunes, the head of Trump Media & Technology Group (which operates Truth Social), over assertions that the bank debanked the firm due to political pressure from the Biden administration. Dimon told Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures that such accusations are unfounded and require grown-up, factual discussion.
“People need to mature here, and stop making things up,” Dimon said. “We do not debank people because of their religious or political beliefs. We’ve debanked Democrats, Republicans, and devout believers—yet never for those reasons.”
Dimon’s remarks came in response to Nunes, who appeared on the same program last month to address a Florida attorney general investigation. The probe concerns allegations that JPMorgan coordinated with the Biden-era Justice Department to hand over sensitive banking records to prosecutors and to close Trump Media’s accounts with the bank.
Speaking with Bartiromo, Nunes contended that Trump Media had become a public company only in 2024 and asserts it was not involved with events surrounding January 6, 2021. “So why would Trump Media be subpoenaed at that time during this investigation? It doesn’t make sense,” Nunes said. He added that after months of discussion, cooperation with authorities appeared politically motivated, and now it seems the bank was under subpoenas that weren’t disclosed to them.
Dimon identified himself as a longtime opponent of debanking and stressed the bank operates under strict rules. “We don’t debank people lightly. We must follow extensive regulatory requirements and report certain information to authorities when required,” he explained. He also noted that banks act under legal compulsion: “We don’t hand over information just because someone asks. If there’s a subpoena, we are obligated to comply.”
