Tragic Bus Crash in Uganda: 3-Year-Old Child Killed, Multiple Injuries (2026)

Bold warning: a preventable crash robbed a child of life and left many others fighting for recovery. This is the reality on a Ntungamo-Kabale road where a Bismarkan bus crash highlights how quickly danger can strike—and how crucial safe driving habits remain.

Uganda: Three-Year-Old Killed as Bismarkan Bus Crashes on Ntungamo-Kabale Road

Police in Ntungamo District are probing a road collision involving a Bismarkan bus, which resulted in the death of a three-year-old and serious injuries for several other passengers.

The incident happened on Thursday, December 12, 2025, around 7:45 p.m., along the Ntungamo-Kabale route at Omunshenyi. The bus, with registration UBB 798J, was en route from Ntungamo to Kabale when it collided with the rear of an unidentified vehicle traveling ahead in the same direction.

Rwizi Region Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira stated that the bus driver apparently did not stay in his lane, ramming into the vehicle in front of him. The impact caused the bus to lose control and overturn.

A three-year-old boy, named Arimpa Ian, died at the scene, and several other passengers sustained serious injuries. Those injured were transported to local health facilities for treatment, though the specific hospitals were not yet confirmed by authorities.

The deceased’s body was taken to Doctor's Referral Hospital mortuary and will remain there pending a postmortem examination.

Police towed the bus wreckage to Rubaare Police Station for a thorough inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles. Investigators are working to identify the bus driver, the injured passengers, and the unknown vehicle and its driver involved in the crash.

Police urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules, maintain safe following distances, and practice proper lane discipline to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

And this is where it gets controversial… perspectives on road safety enforcement, driver training, and vehicle maintenance often differ. Do you think stricter penalties or better driver education would make the biggest difference in reducing these crashes? Share your thoughts in the comments.
