The Trump administration has made a bold move by appointing prominent figures to a 'Board of Peace' for Gaza, sparking both intrigue and controversy. Among the notable names are US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, who will serve as founding members.
But here's where it gets interesting: this board is part of President Trump's ambitious 20-point plan to end the long-standing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The board will temporarily oversee the governance and reconstruction of Gaza, with each member playing a critical role in its stabilization.
The board's formation was announced by Trump himself, who praised it as the 'Greatest and Most Prestigious Board ever.' Other members include Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, private equity firm head Marc Rowan, World Bank chief Ajay Banga, and US national security adviser Robert Gabriel.
Sir Tony Blair's involvement is particularly noteworthy, given his controversial role in the Iraq War. As UK Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007, he led the UK into the war in 2003. After his tenure, he served as a Middle East envoy for the Quartet of international powers.
This board is separate from the recently announced Palestinian technocratic committee, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), which will handle day-to-day governance. The NCAG will be led by Ali Shaath, a former deputy minister in the Palestinian Authority.
