A Hull man vanished after leaving a 1995 Christmas party and has not been seen since, a mystery that his family says remains heartbreakingly unresolved after three decades. Philip Fudge, then 21, traveled from Hull to Liverpool for an event with two friends at the HMS Eaglet Royal Navy base on 10 December 1995. He was last spotted getting into a taxi with two women and a man, and never made it back to a friend’s house in Liverpool where he was meant to sleep before returning home to Hull.
On the 30th anniversary of his disappearance, Philip’s sister, Linda Shields, urged anyone with information about his sudden, out-of-character vanishing to come forward. She described the ongoing pain of not knowing what happened as a constant, unrelenting weight.
The Missing People charity, which is supporting the family, explained that Philip and his two friends planned to stay overnight at a mutual friend’s house near HMS Eaglet. The next morning, his friends contacted Philip’s mother to check if he had been in touch. His car was left at the friend’s home, indicating he never returned as planned. His mother Nadine Fudge reported him missing to the police, marking the start of what the family calls a nightmare.
Philip was an HGV driver who faced a trip across Europe the day after his disappearance. His sister described the case as wholly out of character. Missing People noted that Philip’s mother explored every possible lead, calling hospitals and taxi firms in Liverpool, appealing on regional and national media, and even coordinating with French authorities in case he had left the UK.
Nadine Fudge died in 2019 without ever learning what happened to her son. In interviews for the Missing podcast, Linda Shields said her mother endured lifelong heartbreak and sought closure that never arrived. She appealed to anyone with knowledge of Philip’s whereabouts to contact Missing People, insisting that, after all these years, the family deserves answers.
Missing People has released an image of what Philip might look like today. People with information can report sightings anonymously on the charity’s website or by calling its helpline. The organization’s representative Ndella Senghore urged Philip to reach out, noting the service is non-judgmental, confidential, and free, and that help is available for his safety.
At the time of his disappearance, Philip was described as White, 5 feet 10 inches tall (about 1.78 meters), with a heavy build, blue eyes, and short light brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue check shirt, blue jeans, brown leather boots, and a watch.
Local police have been contacted by the BBC regarding the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant a detail may appear.
